What is Bildungsurlaub?
Bildungsurlaub is the possibility to have a paid time off from work for educational training despite being fully employed. Depending on the Bundesland (Federal State) you can have every year time off to participate in Bildungsveranstaltungen. It is important that the course is officially recognised as Bildungsurlaub and that it includes working or socio-political topics. Please get in touch with us if you are not sure if we are official recognised in your Bundesland.
Who is entitled?
In Germany education is managed individually by the Bundesländer. Therefore the location of your workplace is decisive. Each Bundesland has different regulations for applying for Bildungsurlaub.
Basically, all employees who have a work relationship which has existed for more than six months are entitled. Only Bavaria and Saxonia have no regulations for Bildungsurlaub. Please have a look in your collective agreement or employment contract if there is a separate clause for Bildungsurlaub.
How to apply for Bildungsurlaub?
The application process is different in each Bundesland. A personalised course instruction with the program and content of your course is usually requested. We will be happy to support you and draw you up your personal course plan.
Please get in touch with us if we are not officially recognised in your Bundesland. We will definitely find a solution to support you with your educational training.
